Sodium benzoate, is an organic substance with chemical formula of C7H5NaO2. It is a white particle or crystal powder, odorless or slightly restful aroma, slightly sweet and astringent, with a relative molecular weight of 144.12. It is stable in the air, soluble in water, and its aqueous solution has a pH value of 8, soluble in ethanol.
Application
This product is used as food additive (preservative), bactericide in pharmaceutical industry, mordant in dye industry, plasticizer in plastic industry, and as an intermediate in organic synthesis such as perfume.
